DESCRIPTION
A high quality, durable interior flooring oil based on natural ingredients and renewable resources. The unique resin system used is a modified oil-based alkyd that gives you all the benefits of an oil-based coating, while using water instead of solvent. The Natural Paint Company Hard Floor Oil forms a hard, antistactic surface which is breathable and water-repellent and an excellent alternative to water-based polyurethane. Hard Floor Oil comes clear or in a range of trans-oxide colours, is solvent free, low VOC and is approved for use on toys according to European regulations. Available in a Matt/Satin or Gloss finish. PREPARING THE SURFACE
- Prepare the surface in acourdance with standard practice.
- For reapplication of Hard Floor Oil see ‘Maintenance’.
- Other surface coatings may need to be removed completley.
- The surface must be well sanded: floors with 120-180 grit; furniture with 180-240 grit.
- Ensure the surface is clean, free from grease and dry with a maximum moisture content of 12%.
- Wipe timbers containing high amounts of resins or terpenes with The Natural Paint Company Thinner, using a lint free cloth – especially on matai, oak, some tropical, timbers etc. Allow to dry.
- If glue is used in a laid timber floor, ensure it is fully hardened before applying product.
- Always test for suitability on your substrate with an adhesion test.
APPLYING THE PRODUCT
- The floor/surface temperature must be at least 16ۣ°C. Heat area over-night if necessary.
- Stir thoroughly before using.
- Ventilate well when working with the product and while it is drying.
- If you are wanting to enhance the colour and grain of the wood, apply 1 coat of Wood Priming Oil first. If you would like to keep the colour of the wood then continue to step 5.
- Apply 3-4 coats of Hard Floor Oil by brush, roller, spray gun or lint free cloth. If using a roller, we recommend a high quality Dacron roller suitable for water-based products.
- Never pour the product onto the surface as this will result in patchiness and staining that sanding will not remove.
DRYING
- Touch dry after 1-2 hours at 20°C at 50-55% humidity.
- Can be sanded and/or recoated after 3 hours at 20°C at 50-55% relative humidity. Fully hardend after 7-14 days. Use carefully for the first 2 weeks.
Note: The drying time of oil-based products is prolonged by:
High humidity and/or low temperatures during applicatoin and drying time; absorption of natural terpenes, oils, waxes or resins from the substrate, poor ventilation and thick coats.
CLEANING
Clean implements immediately after use with water. If left, implements will need to be cleaned up with thinners.
MAINTENANCE
- Clean only after fully hardened. Use warm soapy water to clean surfaces coated with Hard Floor Oil. We recommend The Natural Paint Company Household Cleaner.
- When recoating Hard Floor Oil, clean surface well and degrease if necessary, sand lightly.
- Add felt pads to chair and table legs to protect floors from furniture movement.
Natural floors can mark and scratch easily and removing outdoor shoes is also an advisable move – stones stuck to shoes will cause a great deal of harm to wooden floors.
